Just Another Day on the Lake

Thomas and Ken spent the day fishing on Lake Picket. Thomas was up at 5am giddy with excitement. They spent the better part of the day on the water. Thomas was so excited that he caught a bass that was almost 3 pounds. When he got home he ran through the house telling me that he caught enough fish to feed our whole family. And he was right....we fried it up and we all got to eat his catch of the day. He kept telling us all night that his fish was 16 inches long and it was the biggest one he's ever caught on his own. We were so proud and excited for him. I think we "o-fish-ally" have a fisherman on our hands!

2nd Annual Field Day

I was lucky that Thomas' class and my class were outside for Field Day at the same time so I got to see him have fun with his classmates. Next year, I won't be so lucky since second grade goes for Field Day on a different day than Kindergarten. The weather was absolutely beautiful and everyone had a blast.

Mrs. Rhodes' Produce Stand

I don't normally put anything on our blog about my classroom. It's not on purpose. I just don't think anything is very noteworthy when compared to the boys. Although, I was so pleased with a new project my class did that I wanted to share and to honestly make a mental note to do it again next year. After reading Tops and Bottoms by Janet Stevens we made a produce stand. The children had to spongepaint vegetables/fruit that I had pretraced. Then they cut it out and wrote about what part of the plant we eat. It turned out cute! It took two days and seriously could have easily taken three. They don't want to take it down. I love that they enjoy looking at it as much as I do.

Very Hungry Art Work

Nathan's new big boy room is coming along with decorations. A wonderful lady at school who takes care of Thomas on Wednesday afternoons also paints murals. Well, I know I wanted her to help with the artwork, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to committ to a mural. Instead, I had her paint 5 canvases. I am so in love with them. She did an amazing job and it truly looks like Eric Carle did it himself.

Easter

The boys had a lot of fun with the Easter Bunny's visit. Thoms left him a cup of milk and some carrots. He didn't eat them all so they kind of shriveled up overnight. The boys ate jellybeans for breakfast and before we knew it it was time to get ready for church. It was an extra quiet Easter since we stayed home.  Ken asked if I would make a Shepard's Pie rather than a ham dinner. We really missed being with family this year. We are going to have to plan something different next year!

After naptime the boys had an Easter Egg hunt in the backyard. Thomas cheated and was peaking out the window. Nathan would gather the eggs but Thomas was too quick. Thomas' basket overfilled and he was dropping eggs. Nathan would follow behind and pick them up without Thomas knowing. It was hillarious! Nathan was so mad when Thomas caught on and got all of Nathan's fallen eggs. (Note: See temper tantrum picture...the video we took was priceless.)

I was able to calm everyone down so that we could color some eggs. I tried to limit the mess in the kitchen so Nathan used BINGO markers to decorate them. He had to be super gentle or else they would crack. He did a good job but the whole process was not entertaining enough and he got bored with it. Thomas was ready to color the remaining eggs and seemed to have lots of fun.

Big Boy Bed

It's official... there are no more cribs or toddler beds in our house. This hasn't happened in 7 years! We have been debating on whether to get Nathan a real bed for some time, but we thought he was still too small. After him placing his bedding on the floor and preferring to sleep there than his bed, we knew it was time. My mom came over to help me prepare his room and new linens. It turned out super cute and he loves it! We are still on the hunt for a headboard and some accessories for the wall before we can say it's all done. Now, we'll have to see if he sleeps in it all night. (I'm not holding my breath.)

Easter Egg Hunt

Since we didn't have school on Good Friday a friend of mine coordinated an Easter Egg Hunt at Trotwood Park in Winter Springs. All the kids brought 12 eggs and to make it more challenging for the older kids, we wrote their name on 12 eggs and they had to find eggs with their name on them! It started to sprinkle as the kids were searching for the eggs but didn't start to pour until they were finished. We got very lucky! Nathan at one point fell into a puddle, but that was okay since we were going to the splash pad anyway. It was a relaxing way to spend a morning all together.
