Yucky Germs

On Friday Nathan came down with croup. It was so sudden and scary! Over the weekend, he was kind of quiet (which doesn't happen) and very clingy (which doesn't happen). On Sunday he was still running a fever, so he is home today. You know he doesn't feel good when he is laying on the floor watching TV. Normally he would be running laps and climbing furniture. Poor litle guy.

Painting Project

In June, it will be 9 years we have been in our home. It's crazy how fast time has gone. It's more crazy how much the paint has faded on the outside of the house! When the house was being built we were able to choose the colors and little did I realize that picking a white house meant prime real estate for love bugs! Now that the light blue trim is nearly all bleached out, it's time to paint! The back of our house looks like a colorful canvas since picking paint colors is not something I am good at. Now all we need is a healthy weekend of kids, good weather, and some umph to get it all done. Here's what we chose. The Slate Green (looks grey to me) will be the house color and the Parchment White will be the trim color.

Crazy Hair Day

It is school spirit days each Friday at school and once a month there is a special theme for the kids to dress up. This time it was "Crazy Hair Day". I let Thomas wear a mohawk to school. He loved it!!! I'm glad I remembered that I had my camera to take a quick picture in my classroom before the bell rang. (P.S. Those were the 100th Day glasses his teacher gave him, but they were so much fun to wear he even wore them on the 101st day!) ha!

Feeding Monkey

I am constantly amazed when I watch Nathan pretend play. His favorite toy is Monkey. Wherever Nathan is, Monkey is not far behind. He's one of those toys I should have bought two of, just in case we lose him. At dinner, Nathan gestured that he wanted Monkey. I gave him Monkey and he must have been hungry. Nathan had fun "feeding" him while he said, "Mmmmm!". When Monkey was "full" Nathan gave him a big kiss. It was so sweet! I'm glad I got it on video, too.

I used to be able to capture such adorable pictures of Nathan smiling. Now he smiles big, but with his eyes closed on purpose! Here he is all bundled up going to "school".  



Getting Ready for the 100th Day

On Thursday, January 27th it will be the 100th Day of school. Thomas' weekend project is to collect 100 items and place them in his special baggie. Thomas knew right away what he was going to bring to school. He has been "collecting" acorns since September and we have accumulated buckets and buckets of acorns. They are in his backpack. They are in the car. They are everywhere!!! We drew 10 circles with sidewalk chalk in the garage and he placed 10 acorns in each circle and counted his collections by 10's. The 100th day is very exciting! (Plus, it means only 80 more days until summer vacation!)

Early Steps

On Friday, we took Nathan to Early Steps in Orlando for a development evaluation since we have some speech concerns. We weren't sure what to expect but was pleasantly surprised by the whole experience. The facility was beautifully decorated and provided lots of age appropriate toys for Nathan to play with while we waited for our appointment. We were told the appointment would last 2 hours and they were right. It was a long morning, but very informative. Nathan did well on the evaluation. Especially in the area of gross motor skills! He did qualify for speech therapy and we will start those sessions at home in a few weeks. We are thankful that our pediatrician recommended going through Early Steps and the entire process has been headache-free! Now that Nathan has the tubes in his ears and with the help of speech therapy we are sure that within a few sessions he'll be our little climbing, chatterbox.

Using Utensils!

While feeding Nathan waffles he pointed and grunted at my fork, so I handed it to him and surprisingly he did great feeding himself with it. So, I gave him a child size fork and he ate THREE waffles using it! Yay, Nathan!

Blowing Bubbles

When Thomas turned four he was allowed to start chewing bubble gum. This week he finally learned how to blow bubbles with it! Now, he constantly is asking for gum to practice his new trick.

First Lollipop

Nathan snuck into the snack drawer and found a stash of lollipops. Before I knew it, he had the wrapper off and the stick in his mouth. The entire time he said, "Mmmmmm!". When I got out the camera I think he got a little confused about how to say "cheese" and eat the lollipop all at the same time!

The Florida Aquarium

For months now, we have talked about taking the boys to the Florida Aquarium. Thomas desperately LOVES the octopus. We looked up the aquarium's information and when we saw that they had an octopus, we HAD to go! Since winter break was very long this year, we decided to take a day and ride over to Tampa. The boys were super during the car ride. We got there in good time and spent several hours touring the aquarium. Of course, Thomas' favorite part was the octopus. In fact, we saw two! Nathan loved the Coral Reef exhibit. He kept shouting, "Oh, WOW!" while pointing at every animal.

We thought that it would be too much on the boys if we drove home that same day, so we stayed overnight. It was nice that we booked at an extended stay hotel so that way there was plenty of room for the kids and a full kitchen for all the snacks and juice we brought. Plus, Papa has some good connections. (wink.wink.)After we checked in we went to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. The boys behaved great! I have to admit it was a different dining experience with children, but it was great that they had a children's menu. We had such a fun time and look forward to going back to Tampa. We didn't get a chance to go to the Lowry Zoo or The Children's Museum, so those places are now on the top of the list of places to visit!
