Rollie Pollie Ollie

Yesterday Nathan rolled over for the first time. For the past few weeks he's been attempting it, but his shoulder kept getting in the way! While Ken was on the floor playing with him he finally rolled over from his back to his belly. After the first few times, he now thinks he's a pro. Only one problem....he doesn't know how to roll back over so he thinks he's stuck! He had so much fun rolling over I think he wore himself out. We put him to bed at 8:30 and I had to wake him up go to school at 6:30am.

Turning 30!

Yikes....I'm 30! I have to admit it was the best birthday I have had in a long time. It was so much fun waking up and having Thomas sing to me "Happy Birthday". He had been counting down the days until my special day. He was trying to convince me that I wanted a puppy for my birthday! Ha! I started off the day with quite the surprise from Ken. He had flowers and a birthday balloon delivered to my school. The children in my class thought that it was cool to have presents delivered. The class was extra sweet on my special day. My room-mom made homemade cupcakes for the class and showered me with many birthday presents, too. It was so thoughtful of her to organize gift giving with the parents and children.

When I got home from picking up the boys at school, I was shocked to see flamingos in our yard! At first I thought it was a type of fundraiser I had seen on TV where you donate money and have them moved to someone else's yard, but then I realized there was no money envelope in the mailbox or on the door. After a phone call to Emily she asked how many flamingos I thought were in the yard. I told her that I didn't count them and she suggested there just might be 30 of them! Well, boy did she surprise me! I can't wait for her 30th to roll around in April! When she came over to celebrate he had to take some more pictures before she took them back to her brother. Thomas was so sad that she had to take them. He asked if they could live in the backyard!

The following day my new vacuum was delivered. Ours was ready to blow up and had lost all suction, so Ken let me pick out a new one. I picked the Dyson that was designed to help pickup pet hair. It is THE best vacuum. It has amazing suction and it is fun to "steer". It even works amazing on tile!

We were supposed to continue the birthday fun over the weekend but Thomas came home on Friday with a fever. By Saturday it had not subsided, so after talking with the pediatrician we decided to take him to urgent care. They said it was the Swine Flu and gave us a prescription for Tamiflu. We have to break open the capsules and sprinkle it into applesauce, but Thomas can still notice the yucky taste. He is no longer running the fever so we hope he can return to school on Monday.

I guess we'll have to continue our birthday plans for another day.

Double Trouble

When I look at them I can't help but wonder how much trouble they are going to get into together. Thomas asked if he could hold Nathan so they could play video games together. I love their sweet smiling faces. I also put Nathan in his excersaucer. He loves moving the toys on it so that the music plays.

Swingin'

A few weeks ago I decided to weed the backyard flower beds. Thomas was outside with me playing on the swingset. Several times he called for me to give him "one more push". I told him to wait a minute until I finished weeding the area where I was. Then I heard him say, "Nevermind." I looked over and he was swinging all by himself!! I yelled, "Thomas, you're pumping all by yourself!!" He smiled and said, "I knew I could do it at school. I didn't know I could do it here!" I laughed out loud. He said that a boy at school taught him how. (The same boy who taught him how to snap.) Here are pictures of him on this special day. The following day we went outside to play again and we set up Nathan's swing. They both had fun playing in the sunshine.

Back to School

It's been pretty unbelievable about how busy we have been within the past few weeks. In fact, it's been quite a blurr. There's so much to update on that I am going to break it down by child!
News About Nathan:
I started back to work on August 17th. Nathan began going to his sitter that week also. He is in the same home care provider that Thomas went to when he was an infant. She said that he is doing well. He pretty much only sleeps and eats while he's there. He is now taking a big 8oz. bottle near the 8pm time and goes to bed at 9pm and sleeps until about 4 or 5 am. It is so nice to be able to sleep for more than 3 hours at a time. I am starting to feel human again. Nathan is now cooing up a storm and loves looking in the little infant car mirror and smiling at himself. He is such a happy baby and I'm not just saying that because I'm his mother! The picture below is of his first day of "school" at 8 weeks old.

News About Thomas:
Thomas didn't start his school until August 24th so thankfully Ken took off a week to be home with him while I worked. (Ken also was also able to take off the week before that when Thomas had his adenoids and tonsils removed. All is well with Thomas now!) It was nice to practice getting out the house early in the morning with only one kid. I had to ease myself into our reality! We have to be out the door near the 6:45 time in order for me to drop Thomas and Nathan off and be at work by 7:45. It's not as bad as it sounds, but it makes for very LONG days! Thomas started at a new school this year. We went to their Open House last Saturday. He is in the same class as his best buddy, Luke. There are 12 kids in his class with two teachers. We signed him up for Tumble Time on Thursdays to help give his week some excitement. We plan to sign him up for T-Ball in the Spring. He had a good first week. In the beginning he was leery about taking a nap and eating their lunches, but now that we got all of that worked out, I think he is going to have a successful year. I really want him ready for next Fall when he starts Kindergarten. He brought his teachers flowers on the first day just like I did when I went to Nursery School. I love the picture of the boys in front of the school. I actually stopped and "inhaled" the moment when I took the picture. I think I actually said aloud, "Oh my God, I have two kids!"

I wanted to also post the picture of the boys I took on Wednesday morning. Here they are wearing matching monster shirts that the Scheffer family got them. I am so glad they both smiled at the same time! Aren't they cute (even at 6am)?

Thomas Learns to Tie

Thomas learned how to tie! Well....sort of. He didn't learn to tie his shoes. He learned how to tie a neck tie! Several months ago, Thomas became obsessed with the movies The Night at the Museum and its sequel. He loves Ben Stiller's character "Larry Daley". "Larry", the night guard, wears a jacket, "slacks", boots, a set of keys, a flash light, and of course...a neck tie! Thomas often dresses like Larry and doesn't want to come out of character. When he requested a neck tie, which Papa provided, Ken and I were stumped on how to tie it when it accidently became untied. We actually watched YouTube tutorials on how to tie a tie, but we never got the hang of it. Papa had to teach us the correct way. Well, since Thomas dresses in chracter so often we end up re-tying it several times a day. That's when Thomas surprised us this week! He learned how to do it himself! We now have hope that he'll learn to tie his shoes!
