Craft Time

I am trying hard to not let the boys feel "bored" this summer, so we took a major shopping trip to the craft store. The boys picked out anything that looked interesting and they wanted to start crafting as soon as we got it all home. Everyone we know will soon own beaded necklaces, painted sun catchers and (my favorite) perler bead creations.

My Little Helper

The other day I made blueberry muffins while everyone was still sleeping. Nathan got up and wanted to help me. He loves to use the spoon for mixing and he's very curious about the oven. After they came out he wanted to eat one, but I told him they were too hot. Simple fix.....he went and got a sheet of paper, folded it accordion style and made a fan to cool them off. Smart cookie he is!

Rewarding Achievement

Another school year is in the books. How can it be that Thomas is finished with second grade already? He had some growing pains in second grade. He learned how to get out of tests (faking a stomach ache) and learned to challenge himself with harder books to read. I don't even know how many inches he grew, but I do know that we went through shoes like you wouldn't believe. I think we bought a pair every other month for the whole year! No kidding! And each time we went to the shoe store he was a bigger shoe size. The boys is growing! We absolutely loved his teacher and wished she would take the group up to third grade, but that didn't happen.
Nathan had a very successful year in his class. He learned to write his name, spell everyone's name in his class and shows more interest in writing and learning to read. He is still very active and ALL boy! It amazed us as he learned to climb the monkey bars independently but when he learned to ride his bike with no training wheels....well, we're still speechless. He wants to play every sport known to man and we know he'll succeed with any sport!
As a special way to end the year, we always get the boys a special reward. This year we kept it simple by starting off summer with new "Life is Good" t-shirts. The boys were happy to have another "Jake shirt" in their closet.
It was a great year for the boys and we know that next year will be another successful one as Thomas will be in third grade and Nathan in VPK!

Splashin' at the Zoo

Since we all had off on Memorial Day, we decided to use our zoo annual pass and head to the zoo. The boys love to splash there. We were surprised to see so many visitors and so many volunteers walking around with animals for the children to pet and learn about. We got to see the new rhinoceros exhibit, too. It was such a pretty and relaxing day. We ended the night with a cookout and it was a little taste of summer as we finish up the last few days of school.

Muffins with Mommy Morning

Nathan's school hosted a "Muffins with Mommy" celebration for Mother's Day. It was fun to take some time in the morning and have breakfast with the boys. I usually drop Nathan off to school with his breakfast. I'm so thankful that his school does little things that make us working mom's feel like we can be in two places at once.

Thomas and His First Holy Communion Celebration

Thomas received his Holy Communion on May 5th. Months before I told him that we could all have dinner to celebrate this special event. He quickly told me that he wanted Tijuana Flats. Yum! Well, then we got the dates for Holy Communion and his fell on Cinco de Mayo. I knew that Tijuana Flats would be super crowded so we made his special day into a special weekend kind of celebration. We had dinner on the 4th and then met up at church on the 5th. We are still waiting for the professional photographers pictures that were taken at church. I hope they turned out well. We are so proud of Thomas.

Art Show

Nathan's school hosted their annual Art Show. I am always blown away by how much they do with these little ones. This year was no different. Nathan's class did a Nursery Rhyme theme. It was so cute. I really liked the big Humpty Dumpty. We got to see all the art work in the other classes. It was super crowded as I remember from years past so we got there a little late to allow all the early people to get in and get out. ha! This is yet another reason why we love Nathan's school!
